CAMDEN, S.C. - The Camden Bulldogs opened the 2007 season with an impressive 48-14 win over county rival North Central here on Friday night.
The Knights took an early 7-0 lead when Anthony Furman caught a short pass from Jesus Martinez and rambled 45 yards to the end zone with 9:32 left in the opening quarter. The home team broke it open with a 21-point third quarter as Maurice Johnson (7-74), Trevor Jefferson and Daniel Wallace all got into the end zone, upping Camden's lead to 41-7 going into the final quarter.
The Knights continued to fight and added another score when Rashad Thomas scored from eight yards out on the first play of the fourth period. That was set up by a 57-yard run by Furman, who rushed 18 times for 102 yards on the night.

KNIGHTS WIN DEFENSIVE BATTLE 14-7
FLORENCE, S.C. – Battling the weather and AAAA foe West Florence on their home field, the Camden Bulldogs came up short here Thursday night falling to the Knights by a score of 14-7.
The game was delayed one hour and 47 minutes due to persistent lightning in the area which accompanied varying levels of rain showers throughout the contest.
Camden scored first when they marched 80 yards in 16 plays, consuming 8:54 off the clock, and culminating with Jarvin Robinson hit Blake Walker on seven-yard touchdown pass on third and goal.
The hosts would take the ensuing kickoff and embark on a long scoring march of their own, going 77 yards in 14 plays and tying the game when Paul Pizzuti found tight end Jason Ham over the middle on a seven-yard scoring toss. The teams went into halftime tied at 7.
Interceptions would doom Camden’s attempt to win the game in the second half, as West Florence turned one of the picks into a short touchdown run by Pizzuti midway through the third period.
The Bulldogs forced and recovered a West Florence fumble late in the period and then drove 51 yards to the Knights’ one-yard line. Unfortunately, the Dogs could not punch the football in on fourth and goal and eventually came out on the losing end of the score 14-7.
Both defenses controlled the game, as Camden limited the hosts to just one significant drive all night. The Bulldogs outgained WF 198-164, with 117 of those yards coming on the ground.
Linebacker Chris Outten earned the Sports Connection Player of the Game honors for Camden as he registered 15 tackles on the night.
Next up, Camden travels to take on old rival Hartsville at Kellytown Stadium this Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30.

Hartsville's Bennett Saunders muffed the opening kickoff, then scooped it up and rambled 94 yards to paydirt to give the Red Foxes a 7-0 lead just 17 seconds into the game.
After a three-and-out by Camden, the Red Foxes could not move on their next drive but the Hartsville punt hit a Camden player and the Foxes recovered at the Camden 17 yard line. Two plays later, Wil Newsome hit Jordan Lyles from 13 yards out to make it 14-0.

Cameron Gill's PAT gave Camden a 14-7 advantage.
Then with less than a minute remaining in the half, linebacker Matt Moser broke Dreher's back with a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown, upping the Dogs lead at halftime to 21-7.
