Friday night the Camden Bulldogs took down the North Central Knights 46-12 to go 2-0 to start the 2016 varsity football season.

It’s the 5th win for Camden over North Central in a series that began in 2006.

“I thought our offense started clicking early and our defense played hard again all night,” said Camden Head Coach Jimmy Neal.

Senior quarterback Devin Beckley picked up from a week ago and threw for 251 yards and a touchdown on the night and also ran for a TD score as well. Jericho Murphy ran for 80 yards and a touchdown and caught a TD pass.

Avery Barnes was named offensive Sports Connection Player of the Game and William Cobb won the honors on defense.

Camden will now prepare to host long-time foe Hartsville at Zemp Stadium next Friday night in a 7:30 pm ET kickoff in a continuation of the longest-running high school football rivalry in South Carolina.

Camden still holds the overall series lead against Hartsville 47-37-4, but recently the Red Foxes have had the upper hand over the Bulldogs.

“It’s a big challenge but one we look forward to,” Neal said. “We enjoy playing those guys.”

The Camden-North Central game was videoed by KM Video Productions and a television replay can be seen next Wednesday at 8:00 pm ET on TruVista Cable Channel 39.
