Zemp Stadium - 1st Round AAA Lower State Playoffs

Camden, S.C.

Dogs Open Playoffs With 38-14 Win Over South Aiken

11/6/09

Camden, S.C. – Friday night the Camden Bulldogs opened the AAA Lower State Playoffs taking down the South Aiken Thoroughbreds 38-14 at Zemp Stadium in Camden. With the win, Jimmy Neal becomes just the fourth head coach in the 115 year history of Camden Football to earn 100 victories at CHS.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard early in the game as SaVonn Wingate found the endzone from 1 yard out. That score was set up by a 54-yard return by Jeffrey Belton on the opening kickoff. A point after by Jacob Ansley made it 7-0 in favor of Camden. But South Aiken would tie it up on a 16 play, 61 yard drive that saw running back Chris Johnson run it in from 1 yard out. The PAT made it a 7-7 tie.

Camden would break the tie in the second quarter as SaVonn Wingate capped off a 6-play drive as he ran it in from 20 yards out. The Ansley point after made it 14-7. Ansley would add on another three points as he connected on a 24 yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter to make it 17-7 in favor of Camden at the half.

Camden would open it up in the second half as at the 8:13 mark of the third quarter, Josh Council connected on a 25-yard pass to Glenn Quattlebaum for the touchdown. The PAT made it 24-7. The Bulldogs would score again early in the fourth at the 11:02 mark as Wingate again found the endzone from 2 yards out. The PAT by Ansley made it 31-7. Camden’s final score of the night came with 9:04 remaining in the ballgame as Wingate found the endzone yet again from 2 yards out. That score was set up by a recovered fumble by Zack Neal after South Aiken’s DaAnte Shoultz mishandled a catch on a punt and after Jacob Ansley’s kick, it was 38-7.

South Aiken would score again late in the ballgame on a 15 yard run by Kendell Williams to make it 38-14, but it was not enough as Camden would run out the clock and secure the win.

Josh Council finished the night with 114 yards passing and a touchdown. He also ran 16 times for 73 yards. SaVonn Wingate on 16 carries had 91 yards and four touchdowns. He now has over 1,000 yards on the season and earned Sports Connection Player of the Game honors.

Camden now 8-3 on the season and they will go on the road next week to take on North Charleston in the second round of the playoffs. Coverage begins next Friday night at 6:45 on KOOL 102.7.
