Camden, S.C. - Friday night marked the 30th meeting between Kershaw County rivals Camden and Lugoff-Elgin. The Demons (3-1) walked away in this one with a 24-6 victory over the Bulldogs (2-2) at Zemp Stadium in front of a near-capacity crowd. Lugoff-Elgin has no won four games in a row against Camden, their longest mark in the series for consecutive wins. The series now stands, ironically, at 24-6 in favor of Camden.

Both teams started the game exchanging possessions throughout the first quarter but it wasn't until a SaVonn Wingate fumble at the Camden 31 yard line did one team finally get something going. After the fumble, the Demons marched into the endzone on a 5-play drive that was capped off by a 2-yard run by E.J. Ruiz. After a Grayson Quick extra point, the Demons led 7-0.

The teams would again take turns changing possessions for the remainder of the second quarter and we would go into the Locker Room with the Demons on top 7-0.

Third quarter action, Camden opened up the half with a touchdown drive of their own. That was a 7-play, 81 yard drive that took just 2:01 of the clock. SaVonn Wingate led the way for the Dogs on the drive with 6 carries for 66 yards including a 16-yard touchdown scamper. The extra point attempt by Jacob Ansley was no good, so with 9:59 to play in the third quarter, your score was 7-6.

On the ensuing Lugoff-Elgin drive, the Demons took the ball and went 66 yards on three plays. The third play of the drive saw Forrest Koumas connect with Devonte Alexander for a 61-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good and the Demons went up 14-6.

Camden would have trouble getting anything going for the rest of the game. LE would add another three-points on a Grayson Quick 25-yard field goal in the 4th quarter, and then Alexander would get into the endzone again later in the 4th, this time on defense. He would intercept a Josh Council pass at the CHS 48 yard line and take it to the house. The Demons would run out the clock to secure the win.

Wingate led the way for Camden with 20 carries for 141 yards and a touchdown. For the Demons, Koumas ran the ball 9 times for 77 yards and completed 5 of 12 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Senior offensive lineman Roland Matthews was named the Sports Connection Player of the Game.

Camden now 2-2 on the season will close out their non-region slate next Friday night at Zemp Stadium in a 7:30 kickoff with Andrew Jackson.
