Camden, S.C. – Friday night the Camden
Bulldogs opened region play hosting the Crestwood Knights at Zemp
Stadium. The Bulldogs defense stopped the Knights 4 times on 4th
down and had a big night offensively from running back SaVonn
Wingate to come out 14-0 winners and move to 1-0 in Region 6 of 3-A
play.
The game started out a defensive struggle as
both teams went 3 and out multiple times before Camden finally broke
the scoreless tie. The Dogs on a 4 play, 26 yard drive, that was set
up by fumble recovered by linebacker Zack Neal. Camden punched it in
on a 2-yard run by SaVonn Wingate and the extra point by Jacob
Ansley was good to put the Dogs up 7-0.
A few possessions later Camden would score
again as Wingate ran in from 28 yards out with 4:25 before half time
to go up 14-0. And that would be all your scoring on the night.
Second half though Crestwood moved the football
well, but it wasn’t enough as the Camden defense held strong. Camden
would put together a long drive in the fourth quarter that took off
6 minutes and 43 seconds that moved the ball all the way to the
Crestwood 10 yard line.
Crestwood would get off 2 plays before the
clock ran out, and Camden walked away 14-0 winners. On the night,
Wingate would run the ball 26 times for 129 yards. Josh Council also
had 13 carries for 64 yards. The Dogs with 252 total yards on the
night, while Crestwood limited to just 172 total yards.

Camden improves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in
region 6 play. And they’ll have a short week before going on the
road to play Wilson at Florence Memorial Stadium on Thursday night.
