Florence, S.C. –
Thursday night the Camden Bulldogs (5-2, 2-0) took down the Wilson
Tigers (4-2, 1-1) 45-29 at Memorial Stadium in Florence. The
offensive explosion was led by senior quarterback Josh Council who
finished the night with 6 total touchdowns; 5 through the air and
one on the ground, and combined for a total 311 yards overall.
Camden struck first at
the 8:11 mark of the first quarter when Jacob Ansley nailed a
41-yard field goal - the longest of the year and his career - to put
Camden up 3-0. But Wilson however would go up as they found the
endzone on the ensuing possession. Running back Adray Montgomery
scampered in from 17 yards out to put Wilson up 7-3.
But then in the second
quarter it was Camden scoring three touchdowns, all passes from
Council. The first a 39-yard pass to Glenn Quattlebaum at the 8:22
mark of the second stanza, then another on the Dogs next possession
as he connected with Alvonta Jenkins from 20 yards out at the 5:25
mark, and yet another on their next possession. This time a 71-yard
bomb to Jerrod Beaufort. Throw in another Wilson score, and it was
24-13 at the break.
The Bulldogs would
score on their first possession of the third quarter. Another
Council touchdown to Tim Dinkins from 26-yards out to put Camden up
31-13. Wilson would get in the endzone on their next drive to make
it 31-21, but Camden fired back yet again with 3:41 left to play in
the quarter. Another touchdown pass from Council to Dinkins from 29
yards away to push Camden's lead to 38-21.
The Dogs' final score
of the night a 6-yard rush by Council with 6:28 left to play in the
game to make it 45-21. And a late touchdown by Wilson would not be
enough as Camden walked away the winner.
Camden finished the
night with 435 total offensive yards. Council the Sports Connection
Player of the Game for his efforts. Other offensive leaders for
Camden: SaVonn Wingate had 20 carries for 124 yards on the ground.
Jerrod Beaufort had one catch for 71 yards and a score, Alvonta
Jenkins 2 catches for 55 yards and a score, Tim Dinkins 2 grabs for
55 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Glenn Quattlebaum caught two passes
for 51 yards and a touchdown.
Camden's next game on
the road Friday night at Darlington. Camden will look to improve to
