Darlington, S.C. - Friday night the Camden Bulldogs improved to
6-2 and 3-0 in region play with a come from behind 46-42 win over
the Darlington Falcons at Darlington High Stadium. Camden trailed at
one point 42-27 in the fourth quarter, but 19 unanswered points in
that final quarter gave the Dogs the win.
Camden struck first on the night on their first possession after a
3-yard SaVonn Wingate run capped off a 7-play, 73 yard drive.
Darlington
fired back on the ensuing drive to tie it up at 7 a piece, then
Camden went up 14-7 after Wingate again found the endzone, this time
from 6 yards out. But then Darlington proceeded to railed off 21
unanswered points, including a 36 yard run by Brent Dubose, a 32
yard run by Dominique Cooper, and then a 68 yard punt return by
Victor Hampton to go up 28-14, but then Camden closed it to 28-21
late in the second quarter on a 49 yard pass from Josh Council to
Alvonta Jenkins.
After a 28-21 score at the half, Darlington would score again on a
Damien Dubose run to go up 35-21, Camden came back to make it 35-27
after a 5-yard run by Council and a missed extra point, but then
Darlington went up 42-27 on a 24 yard pass from Damien Dubose to
Devin Joint.
But
then Camden would score 19 unanswered points in the fourth. The
first a 6-yard pass from Council to Jenkins to make it 42-33. After
a fumble on Darlington’s next drive was recovered by Marc McClendon,
Camden scored to make it 40-33 when Council found Glenn Quattlebaum
in the endzone from 34 yards out. The Dogs defense would make a huge
stand on Darlington’s next drive as they made them go three and out.
Then Camden would march down the field 66 yards on 7 plays to go up
46-42. Council ran it in from 11 yards out on the score.
On
Darlington’s final drive of the night, the Camden defense again held
strong as they stopped the Falcons on a fourth down incomplete pass
by Damien Dubose, and your final score Camden 46 Darlington 42.
Camden ended up with 443 total yards on the night. Council ended the
game with 77 rushing yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns. He also
went 16 of 31 for 294 yards and three touchdowns.
Alvonta Jenkins was named Sports Connection Player of the Game. He
caught eight passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns. He also punted
the ball three times for a 53 yard average with a long of 66 yards.
Camden now 6-2 on the season and 3-0 in region play. They will host
Lakewood at Zemp Stadium next Friday night. Kickoff is at 7:30 and
